Santos signs midfielder Elano from Galatasaray

SAO PAULO (AP) — Santos says it has acquired midfielder Elano from Turkish club Galatasaray.
The 29-year-old Elano will be returning to the Brazilian club after five years in European football with Shakhtar Donetsk, Manchester City and Galatasaray.
The playmaker was a starter for Brazil in the 2010 World Cup until hurting his ankle against Ivory Coast in the group stage.
Elano has been officially introduced to fans on Sunday before the team's final Brazilian league match, against Flamengo.
Santos is seventh in the 20-team standings but it has already secured a spot in next year's Copa Libertadores because it won the Brazilian Cup.
Elano will be joining young sensation Neymar.
The Brazilian team will pay about 2.9 million euros to Galatasaray as transfer fee and if Elano changes clubs before Dec. 31, 2012, half of the profits from the sale will be given to the Turkish side.

Lawyer: Murderers of British soccer fans captured

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A lawyer says two Turkish men, convicted in absentia of stabbing two English soccer fans to death in April 2000, have been captured.
Serdar Mermut says Wednesday police captured Suleyman Gokhan Guven this week and Ali Baydar in October after an appeals court in September upheld their conviction along with three other suspects for killing Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight. One suspect remains at large.
The Britons were killed in street clashes in downtown Istanbul the night before Leeds United played Turkey's Galatasaray in the second leg of the UEFA Cup semifinals.
Guven was given a 10-year sentence while the rest received lesser prison terms. Mermut says Guven will serve four years in prison before his conditional release.

Galatasaray Go from Heros to Turkeys

Just try and tell 27 million fans why you have had a slow start to the season, writes Daniel Lane.

Discontent, it's buzzing around the terraces of the cavernous Turk Telecom Arena in Istanbul like angry wasps. The conversations in the ancient city's coffee shops are heavy with it, while down at the harbour fishermen dissect their collective problem as if gutting a fish.

The source of Istanbul's despair is expressed with one word followed by the gnashing of teeth or the dramatic slapping of the forehead. Galatasaray. Oh, Galatasaray

The pride of the Super Lig is languishing in eighth position, and the fans, whom Neill hails as "loyal" and "great", like for their heroes to know defeat stabs at their hearts.
